From group leader, Chris Carosella: “We have two great speakers this month! Saturday, June 15 will be with Treva Patton. She’s been a scrapbooking consultant with Stepping Up and has worked at various conventions. Card making and scrapbooking help preserve memories. Come join our class on June 15 when we will use various mediums and tools such as ink stamping and using die cuts as two examples.”

Thursday June 27 is about mental health awareness. Marie Walker, a Social Worker at the Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired is the guest speaker. Here’s some info about Marie:
“I have a degree in social work from Southeast Missouri State University plus more than 28 years experience working with children and families with mental and emotional disorders in their homes and within the school systems. I have completed mental health assessments and made recommendations on placements if individuals who are a danger to self and others. I have extensive training in suicidal prevention and intervention through the state of Missouri. I have trained with law enforcement, medical and mental health professionals on the warning signs of suicidal, intervention, and prevention strategies. Most recently I’ve worked with CHADS Coalition for Mental Health providing preventive services for adolescents by helping them understand their emotions and how to express them in a healthy manner.”-Marie Walker

Society welcomes our newest Peer Group:Lunch Bunch & More!

Thursday, June 27 – 12:00 to 1:30 pm
4th Thursday immediately following theVIP Social Group

Starting this month, the group will not only have a bowling event on June 26, but they will begin a monthly activity meeting immediately following the VIP Social Group.
Bring a bag lunch, and after VIP, stick around for lunch at noon, followed by a session at 12:30 pm that will cover a different theme each month. This first session will feature cooking with Ann Acton. Future themes will include knitting, sewing, crafting, poetry, writing, visually impaired games and other things. This will give our visually impaired clients a chance to do the things they love to do, but find difficult now due to their vision loss.
