St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired provides transportation services for our clients Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist with needs such as:
- Medical appointments and other healthcare needs
- Participation in the Society’s programs and events
- Grocery shopping
- Financial appointments
- Social engagements with family and friends
- Other appointments, meetings and events
Our Transportation Specialists, Rose and Debbie, will be your drivers and set up all trips. There is no fee for the Society van trips and tips cannot be accepted, but a contribution will be gratefully accepted to help offset costs: $5 one-way or $10 roundtrip within St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis, and $10 one-way or $20 roundtrip for trips to and from St. Charles or Jefferson County.
There is no additional fee for a human guide to accompany the client, but please include this information when making the appointment. Transportation Through Cabs and Ride-Share Services:
We recognize that clients may have transportation needs outside of the days and times during which the Society’s van service is available. In these situations, clients may make transportation arrangements directly with a taxicab company or ride-share provider and submit their receipts for reimbursement.
Clients of the Society may submit taxicab or ride-share provider (Uber or Lyft) receipts for reimbursement up to $100 per month ($500 annual maximum) during the current calendar year. Clients are encouraged to submit their receipts for these services within three (3) days of the transportation event, but no later than seven (7) days from the end of the month in which the expense was incurred. The Society’s reimbursement for taxicab and ride-share services is made possible through the generosity of private donations and concludes once the funding for the year has been expended.
